I have posted some comments on wine boards in the last year about how I thought the Kistlers of 2000-2003 weren’t showing well lately. In a somewhat recent horizontal of 2003 Kistlers I liked Vine Hill best but really wasn’t thrilled with any of them that night. Therefore, in all fairness I had to post first thing this morning. The bottle I had of '03 Vine Hill last night was the best bottle of chardonnay I have had in a really long time. We popped and poured at cellar temp(54 degrees) and let it warm up in the glass. It had a deep golden color with no hint of the greenish hue young Kistlers sometimes have. The palate had a nice nuttiness, maybe hazelnut, maybe marzipan. The weight was nice and full with a rich silky mouthfeel. The alcohol wasn’t noticeable at all and the acid was just enough to keep you coming back for more. It paired really well with broiled Hake with wild mushrooms.
