TN: 2003 Eric & Joel Durand St. Joseph Lautaret

Day 1 - Tight upon opening both on nose and palate. Poured a glass out and let the rest of the bottle breathe. With air, gamey, cured meat and some red fruit and truffles. This entered with extremely tart cranberry. High acidity, but some earthy flavors linger about. High acidity and chalky tannins. Long, brooding finish.

Day 2- more of a black fruited element on the nose along with a more pronounced truffle/mushroomy note. A bit more weight, and much more of a claret- like presence. Dark fruit, earth, tannins and integrated acid. Still showing great length.

Much more impressive than a 2006 bottling tasted earlier in the week. Drank this with an herbed roast chicken one night and homemade flatbread pizza with chorizo and mixed olives the next. Delicious!

Nice notes. Thank you. I have really loved the few bottles of Cornas that I’ve tasted from them.

Cheers,
Bill
