TN: 2003 Domaine Bernard Gripa St. Joseph Blanc Cuvée Le Berceau

  • 2003 Domaine Bernard Gripa St. Joseph Blanc Cuvée Le Berceau - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (9/7/2009)
Popped and poured at 12C. Clear, moderately dark yellow. On the nose this shows oak, toast, flint and some citrus notes. Round, slowly evolving attack that gives a moderately complex mid-palate (oak and lemon) and a lingering albeit somewhat hot final. Although somewhat reminiscent of a Condrieu, I miss the floral side of Condrieu here - there is complexity and a layered wine underneath, but one feels a lack of balance and the 14% alcohol seems to sit awkwardly on a slightly viscous muddle of a wine.
