Don’t listen to the nay sayers who claim that Clarendon Hills wines fall apart after a few years. More than 6 years in and this wine is doing just fine. Popped and poured. Roast meat on the nose with no heavy alcohol aroma. Color is very dark red. Palate is excellent balance and smooth without any intrusiveness from 14.5% alc. There are interesting flavors competing for attention here. There is classic syrah pepper, but not that strong. There is a bit of smooth leather like a left bank Bordeaux. Maybe someone cheated and put some cab in the blend. There’s red fruit and acidity and a moderate to long finish. No bite and easy to drink. (92 pts.)
