TN: 2003 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet

I got off to a bad start with this wine, as I managed to break the cork, but it came out in two clean pieces. Then things got a whole lot better. A euphoria-inducing bouquet of dark fruit, leather and tobacco rose from the decanter and filled the room. I knew right then that this was going to be really good. After about an hour, the first sip more than confirmed this. The wine is rich and powerful, but not heavy or confected. The dark fruit is pure, clean and lively, with nuances of earth, tobacco and leather. The youthful color suggests that there is a lot of life left in this wine. As we worked our way through the bottle, it became more tannic and less fruity. One of the best reds I’ve had this year.

Thanks for the fun note.

I think we are going to experiment with an '06 tonight!

Note is spot on.
Opened one last Friday - it impressed geeks and newbs alike.
