2003 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (6/25/2009)
Although this is a young wine, surprisingly, it’s perfectly ready to drink. Cassis, blackberry, chocolate, spice, and a hint of eucalyptus and mint. Good freshness / acid structure. Riper, rounder, and fatter than BSD usually shows, undoubtedly due to it being such a hot vintage. This actually reminded me of a California Cab or Super Tuscan because of the degree of ripeness. The good news is that this delivers lots of goods and is extremely enjoyable right now. The bad news is that it isn’t really layered and an exercise in intellectuality. And, I think this is not a wine I would age for too long. I have three left and they’ll be consumed over the next year or two with steak or a similarly hearty meal like it.
