TN: 2003 Araujo Eisele Vineyard

This wine showed really well tonight. I opened about 2 hrs before dinner and left in the bottle uncorked, just to give it some air. It’s a deep dark red for a 16 year old wine. In the past, I’ve been a fan of older vintages like 1996 and 1997. I felt the estate took a more modern turn around 2001/2002 and I dropped the list around 2005. After tonight, I’m thinking I judged them prematurely. Tannin was fully integrated. It smelled and tasted like Pauillac. It was full of secondary aromas and tastes of pencil lead, and anise. It reminded me of a ripe vintage of Pichon Baron. I really liked it a lot. Paired with a NY strip steak. I’m going to pull some Altagracia out of storage to check on them now.

sounds like a great bottle!!
