Needed a non-oaky non-buttery wine for a guest and this worked well. Very dark for a Chablis, a bright lemon-gold color. The wine was showing well with lemon, apple, and a slight minerality. Great aciditiy, but not harsh like some Chablis can be at times. Shows the ripe fruit of the vintage with good palate drive and aromatics. A fleshier version of Chablis and quite yummy. I think I paid $28 on release…a fine QPR. Thus far all my Verget wines have been showing well with no sign of oxidation.
Nice note, Bob. I had the Minots 2002 recently, and it was positively stunning. The 2002 Verget whites were what initially got me seriously thinking about white Burgs. Terrific stuff.
Tom, the Vergets are a bit more new world (just a bit) and the 02 vintage was a ripe one. I need to grab some more “classic” vntages and see how they did.
