In response to Father Sax who brought a few Prides to drink and clearout of his cellar on his trip to Durango, I opened the 2002 Cabernet Franc.
I have really enjoyed the Cab Francs from Pride and Bob Foley and even loved the 07 that I tasted last Saturday made by Sally Johnson.
I haven’t had this wine in a couple of years so I was curious to see what was left. Very dark almost opaque purple in the glass to the rim.
Very nice aromas on the palate of dark, dark fruit very blueberrish. Spring Flowers, and a penetrating almost menthol nose.
The palate repeats the flowers and berries, there is no heat or alcohol to be found.
This is a very light wine in the mouth despite its very dark color.
The fruit is still present and tannins are very mimimal. If it has lost anything it is the tannic structure. There is some complexity left and a nice finish that has some of the mentol from the nose.
Not as large or alluring a wine as I remember. I may have one or two more that I will certainly consume sooner rather than later.
All in all a nice drink if not a spectacular one.

That’s Telluride, not Durango…I wouldn’t want to spend 10 minutes in Durango.
Anyway Jack I’m glad you find the Prides to your liking and when I get back home I’ll be drinking one every couple of weeks. My only question is do I drink the young ones first or the older ones?
The Franc is really the only wine of theirs that I still like but I’m not going put any work into buying any. I think I may actually have a few bottles left.
I would go older first. I believe the regular more than the Reserves do declne reasonably early.
