TN: 2002 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Cote de Bouguerots

  • 2002 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Cote de Bouguerots - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (7/9/2009)
Traci and I stopped in Costa Mesa to do a couple of things. A terrific $20 fixe prixe lunch at Marche Moderne (very tasty) and we cracked this and drank over an hour. THe nose showed anise, earth, citrus fruit, wet stones. The palate was crisp, lemony, minerally, a little earthy in the mouth but full, crisp and lively. Just fantastic. It did seem to shut down for a bit then open back up…cracking another Sunday night so will give that a couple hours of air. (93 pts.)

Thanks for the note Tony. That is really terrific stuff.

Had one of these a couple months ago, still remember it! Fabulous wine, just got better and better after opening. Every time someone writes up a Marcassin or Aubert, etc., I have to restrain myself from telling them to drink one of these to reset their thinking [wink.gif]

Awesome. Thanks for the note. Still have 2 bottles but have been waffling on whether to hold and risk pre-mox or just down them. Sounds like it is in a good spot.

I’ve had VERY few issues with premox on my Chablis. Maybe I’m lucky.

Bougros is a wonderful vineyard and like you Tony i am a William Fèvre advocate.

I opened a bottle of this 2 months ago and it was premoxed so you got lucky as the wine sounds delicious…

Leah - this is the 4th bottle I have had out of a case I bought on pre arrival. No premox issues so far. Nothing but terrific bottles.

and a great restaurant, too, now my favorite in OC.

Alan - we thought of you while we were there. I knew you were a fan and Felicia at Wine Cellar Club suggested we go. Corkage was $10 and the food was very good…

Hey where was I…darn

Working…and besides, after all the hard work Traci did watching me pack and load all my wine from the locker, she needed something to wet her whistle.

I opened a bottle of this 3 weeks ago & it was completely premoxed. A bottle a little over a year ago was fantastic though.

Nice Tony. You heard that 4 out of 5 bottles of this wine were good and since you had already had 4 good bottles you brought that fifth bottle to dinner with us. The bottle last night was not horrible or otherwise flawed but it was not enough to make me a fan (of course none of the Chablis from last night were).

I had a bottle at Nick’s in McMinnville last night. They have a great family style dinner on Sundays with no corkage BYOB. Fantastic experience and so was the Fevre. The oak integrated after an hour of air, and was most what I want in a chablis (mineral, citrus, acid, etc). A little round and a touch more oak than I like but definitely not premoxed. I bought on release. Luck?

Walter - I know…that bottle was very average. Disappointing since the others have been so good. At least it was better than that gunpowder Chablis…
