TN: 2002 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

  • 2002 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (4/14/2023)
From a 375. No decanter, but sat in the glass about 1 hour.

Moderate garnet - fairly light colored for a Bordeaux. Touch of light brown on the rim, but no bricking.

Nose a mix of red fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco and campfire. Not super powerful, but well integrated.

Palate has a nice mix of red cherry, cassis, cedar, and leather. Flavors nicely integrated, both fruitiness and cigar box-ish elements. Still pretty tannic.

This is a very pleasant PL, and while not one of the best vintages I’ve ever had is drinking quite nicely. Strong tannins and the fact that this wine is just getting some secondary flavors makes me think this will have a long runway ahead. (93-94 points)

Indeed, not a great vintage, but a ‘success’ of the vintage, to be sure. I regret drinking the few I had too early, back in 2018 and 2019

One of my favorite Bordeaux.

ThNk you such a terrific note.

It’s big fun to read notes about lines of wines by the same labels!

Funny, i had this last week and pulled a perfect cork. Pnp, it was fresh, with ripe plums and just on the verge of getting some exciting tertiary favors (no pencil shavings, but tobacco and gravel. I gave it a 93 on cellartracker

Have some, which I am still holding. Thanks for the check-in!

Had this in a long vertical recently. While I found it ok at best it was actually surpassed quite clearly by the 03 on the day which might come as a surprise. Not to mention 01 which for me was just stunning. Tasted at the Chateau.

Cheers
