2002 Château La Mission Haut-Brion - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (8/31/2009)
Decanted for about 90 mins and enjoyed with a delicious grilled beef rib cap. Initially at cellar temp this was a little tight but the brief decant brought this wine around nicely. Shows a nice nose of black currant, a bit of toasted oak that actually comes across as scorched earth, and a bit of a leathery note. On the full side of medium bodied with a bit of chewy tannin on the back end. Finishes dry and quite nice with a good amount of length. The only downside to this wine is that it probably doesn’t have enough stuffing to hang around for long term (10+ year) aging but that’s fine because you can drink it now while you let some of the better vintages rest.
