This note was written well after the fact, but I thought it might still be of interest, since relatively few Bertheau notes seem to crop up on the web.

2002 Pierre Bertheau et Fils Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (9/13/2009)
Forthcoming fragrances of dark fruits and forest floor, very enticing. The palate is certainly on the lighter weight side, but it is by no means lacking in flavor. The characteristically zippy acidity of ‘02 runs through the juiciness of the fruit and leads into a tannic structure that is slightly firm and in need of time for resolution. This wine appears to have turned the corner into its adolescent phase, but several more years should see it integrate even further. Bertheau has a reputation for light-as-a-feather Chambolles, both in color and weight. This was my first Bertheau bottle, so I was on the lookout, but I did not find that to be the case. This wine is definitely comparable in weight to many other producers’ village Chambolles, and even many Cote de Beaune 1er crus. Furthermore, I found the presence of significant structural components somewhat surprising (in a good way), since some recent lower level '02s already seem to have resolved their frames.
