TN: 2001 von Strasser Cabernet Sauvignon DMD Estate Vineyard

Pop and pour last night after I shredded the cork…argggh!

Just a hint of bricking at the rim and a slightly funky nose for about fifteen minutes, but it blew off to reveal nice cedar and spice notes. Tannins have very much settled in with the fruit to make this a very seamless wine for me. Palate is full of dried cherries, licorice and what I would call forest floor/earth. Medium long finish with a nice round mouthfeel. Had this with a 20oz USDA Prime NY Strip…perfect match.

I love young von Strassers from Diamond Mountain for their power and concentration, but with some age on them and when they get tamed, I think I enjoy them more.

I haven’t had a Von Strasser since the 1997 vintage. I used to like them quite a bit, but then prices crept up and I showed interest in other wines. I may have to find one and try them again.
