TN: 2001 Nicolas Potel Clos de la Roche

  • 2001 Nicolas Potel Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (8/9/2010)
Decanted for about 2 hours. The wine shows a nice combination of earthy minerals and pure red berry fruit. Supremely elegant with a touch of oak spice towards the finish. Certainly a little lighter styled then I was expecting and while it was a very enjoyable treat, it didn’t blow me away like the same wine from Girardin did late last year. (91 pts.)

Rob, I can´t stand it - 65 views and no reply !?!?!?!?

So, although I haven´t tasted the 2001, I know the 2002: certainly NOT light, full of fruit and depth, very pure, far too young, but very promising (a good 3 years ago) … not closed, but also not evolved … I would wait until 2012-15 at the least …

Which leads us back to the question: is 2001 the better vintage - or 2002 ?

Those burg guys don’t reply much unless you don’t like one of their favorites… then they are all over you like stink on a turd… [berserker.gif]

Personally, I think the 01s are better NOW but the 02s will be better LATER. This is from my somewhat limited exposure to both vintages…
