TN: 2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett

4/28/2009

– decanted immediately before tasting –
– tasted non-blind over 3-4 hours –

NOSE: beautiful floral/perfumy bouquet of golden delicious apples and old-canvas-tent type of petrol; the petrol was light, but noticeable; hints of butterscotch, strawberry-mango, and mint fleshed out the complex bouquet.

BODY: tan-yellow color; medium bodied.

TASTE: immediately after opening this wine displayed piercing acidity and a surprising dryness, but the acid calmed down and the sugar came forward with additional air; a tad sulfury; a bit of a hole in the mid-palate; a true Kabinett; pleasing lime zest and spice flavors; 8.5% alc.; finish was approx. 30 sec. in length. If this would have delivered on the palate the way it did with its bouquet, this would have been a knock-out … as it is, this is a very solid Kabinett, but not truly memorable.

B: 50, 5, 13, 15, 7 = 90

Thanks for the notes, Brian. I wondered how this wine was progressing! I burned through my Prüm '01 Kabinetts way too early.

Bump…just because we seem to view Prüm Kabinett with more reverence now.
