    If there are no good, old wines, just good, old bottles, this was definitely one of the latter. Markedly youthful, with still evident dark berry fruit, it also displayed plenty of leather, smoke, and meaty aromas. The palate was more tilted towards the savory, but with excellent cushioning from the fruit. Truly a joy to drink, and a wonderful treasure from Steve's first library sale almost ten years ago!

Just a generic California syrah? I didn’t know he made such a thing.

2001 was the last one. I had a couple of bottles of the 2000, but they are long gone.
