- 2001 Dönnhoff Schloßböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (3/31/2026)
From my father’s cellar, this needed an hour to limber up after nearly 25 years in a bottle. Once it did the fruit freshened, and the underlying power of the site drove the wine like a high-speed freight train - weight and depth but with a flash. I won’t make future development pronouncements based on this bottle, as I know it had some bumps in its journey to get to me, but if a less than pristine example is this good then I have high hopes for my remaining original release bottles.

awesome to read this one, David, and I share your hopes that your future bottles will be even better.
Great vineyard and wine. I’m sorry that Donnhoff lost access to the Kupfergrube vineyard many years ago.
