2001 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave St. Joseph Offerus - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (9/16/2009)
Not much has changed from my last bottle 5 years ago…Dark garnet, purple plum color. Classic Rhone funk nose of leather, blackberry, iodine, licorice, earth spice. Smooth and lush in the mouth, with juicy dark berry fruit, sweet dusty spices, cassis, smoked plums w/pepper, dried herbs, roasted meat. A little sharp/sour acid at times, could use more age, but manages a GREAT mouthful of “Rhoneness flavor”, and fruit that’s lush, with complexity. Great wine for the money…holding well. (91 pts.)
