2001 Château Pontet-Canet - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (12/23/2009)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 4 hours –
NOSE: very ripe fruit - blackberries; lots of oak; hint of graphite; not funky.
BODY: garnet w/mollasses hue throughout; color is of medium-deep depth; lots of fine particulate matter; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: blackberries; lots of oak; hint of funky earthiness; well-balanced with soft tannins; this is a huge wine, and really needs at least 5, if not 15, more years. Has potential to score higher if some oak gets absorbed. Strong “Hold” recommendation on this one.
I liked it a smidge better than Ashley:
B: 50, 5, 11, 16, 8 = 90
A: 50, 5, 11, 15, 8 = 89
