TN: 2001 Bodegas Sierra Cantabria Rioja Crianza (Spain, La Rioja, Rioja)

  • 2001 Bodegas Sierra Cantabria Rioja Crianza - Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (12/5/2009)
Strong dill pickle aromas showing off the American Oak. Fruit is still fairly fat but good acidity and a touch of vanilla. Mot much in the way of complexity but is balanced with acidity. Solid value doing well for its age and should go plenty longer.

I had the 2009 version of the crianza (from a split) popped and poured the other night. Pretty oaky/vanilla laden, fairly modern tasting but in a good way. 14% abv. Both the SO and I agreed that there wasn’t a whole lot that stuck out as clearly Rioja here. Been a long time since I’ve had one of their wines. Very good value.
