2001 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (12/23/2011)
Out of a 375, and best on day two. Dense but its purity and balance keeps it food-friendly. Just starting to show secondary characteristics, the nose and palate were dominated by cassis and graphite, with moist earth, licorice and floral elements in the background. Tannins prominent but fine. Wearing its oak lightly. Long finish. I’ve had so many Cabs that beat me over the head and overwhelmed food lately, this was a pleasant surprise. (94 pts.)
