TN: 2000 Zind-Humbrecht, Pinot Gris, Rangen

An intensely flavored delicious wine with a great finish.
This wine still shows Residual Sugar which adds to the richness that it would probably have even without RS.

Concentrated flavors of apricot, minerals, smoke … it is actually a bit spicy.
The surprise in this wine is the acidity. It is clearly there and prevents this wine from being cloying.
I’m not sure how they get the acidity with such ripeness.

This wine is a pleasure to drink but there is the question of what it can accompany.
It works as an Aperitif. For me, it works after dinner sipping slowly and enjoying the intensity.

This wine was still showing beautifully on the third night after opening.
I am very happy to have a few more though I wouldn’t want a case.

FWIW, I took a look at the old Tanzer review. He quoted Olivier Humbrecht as saying that the sugar will be absorbed over time. Not enough time yet because it is still there.

If you can deal with the RS it is a great wine. If you can’t, don’t waste your money.
