I tasted this wine at a sales meeting when it was released and liked it enough to buy 2 bottles. The first bottle opened 2 years ago was perplexing. The aroma was off perhaps due to reduction and the acidity had a mouth searing texture. The wine did settle down a bit after a few hours in the decanter but something was amiss.
Today’s bottle did not have any problems and quite enjoyable. The nose was clean with scents of dark berries and bacon and extends deep into the nostrils.
The texture was smooth with good mouth feel and a long finish. Flavors of earth, mineral and dark fruit comingle with the distinct Laurent barrel motif although the oak continued to integrate with air and recedes into only a supporting role. Drinking at peak now this should hold on for at least a few more years.
