TN: 2000 Serafini & Vidotto Rosso Dell'Abazia

This is a Venetian Cab Sauv / Cab Franc / Merlot blend and is quite odd, but somehow pretty enjoyable. I opened it to get something different from the POS vanilla brett mess that I had tried earlier, and different I got

Opened with very balsamic / oxidative notes. Soft, herbal with red fruit and cocoa and earthy intrigue. Fairly acidic and a bit volatile. This is an odd bottle of wine, and something of an intellectual curiosity. I wouldn’t call it great, but it’s easy drinking and interesting and would probably pair well to a variety of food, so it’s hard to knock. Really old school, and my instinct says drink up but I’m not that versed in Venetian Bordeaux blends styled after traditional Rioja?
