2000 Noël Verset Cornas - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (11/1/2010)
From magnum, open in bottle for 2hrs…needed a little coaxing to open, but when it did, classic Verset! Cloudy dark plum, blackberry, cherry fruit…still pretty sweet with a good dose of acidity. No mistaking we’re in Rhone here…saddle leather funk, iron, cracked pepper, dried herbs(menthol#, licorice…all well balanced in a med bodied feel. This wine really exploded after taking a few sips of a '99 Rioja that was huge in citrus acidity…the acid really sharpened up the palate, and made all the Rhone flavors in the Verset intensify. Love the pepper and leather, very rustic and of the earth. Super wine…from my favorite Cornas producer! #94 pts.#

1997 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie #11/1/2010#
This was really nice! Started out with tons of bacon on the nose…smooth and soft dark berry fruit, old leather, pepper, olive, nice floral and herb scents. Not as complex of a wine…but I just love the silky feel, and subtle Rhone flavors. Holding up well, but wouldn’t expect it to go much longer without more structure. Drink um now. #90 pts.)
