2000 Marion Valpolicella Superiore - Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore (5/5/2014)
Dark burgundy color, with some light bricking.
Beautiful and aristocratic nose of cedar, dried roses, tar, worn leather and dried Italian herbs. Like a halfway point between mature Barolo and Bordeaux.
Resolved on the palate with a variety of spicy black fruits, pure blackberry acid, and cassis. Great acid carries through on the long and lean finish that lingers on and leaves a delicate imprint.
Surprised I haven’t read more about this producer given the quality in this bottle from the often less than heralded DOC. (91 pts.)
