TN: 2000 Marion Valpolicella Superiore

Beautiful and aristocratic nose of cedar, dried roses, tar, worn leather and dried Italian herbs. Like a halfway point between mature Barolo and Bordeaux.

Resolved on the palate with a variety of spicy black fruits, pure blackberry acid, and cassis. Great acid carries through on the long and lean finish that lingers on and leaves a delicate imprint.

Surprised I haven’t read more about this producer given the quality in this bottle from the often less than heralded DOC. (91 pts.)

Marion is our #1 seller in the zona (even his Amarone which is $). He makes VERY little wine so we are out of it more often than not. He does not have a PR machine like Allegrini or Masi so he is off most people’s radar.

Agreed. Marion is an excellent producer that is on the periphery to say the least.

Clayton, thanks for the TN, I’ll look out for it.

Cheers, Howard

I also picked up the Amarone in the same auction lot, so will give it a spin soon - I think 2000 was a goods year in the Veneto?
