Lovely round giving nose, with more structure on the palate than the nose would suggest. Dark strawberry preserves, sandalwood, earth, and some cured meats. There is s a lot going on here. This seems less full bodied than it is, carrying its weight deftly. Everything is in balance right now, rich and structured but not overbearing, with a beguiling suppleness that belies its structure. This is in a peak window right now. Good balance and great typicity. Outstanding. 91 pts (91 pts.)

I’ve not had, but I find that the great vyds that work with Giambelli, including PdS, Montevertine and Soldera, seem to work very well in the warm vintages, and perhaps comparatively better than some of the others that seek power rather than finesse… e.g. 98 Soldera, 03s and 07s from Montevertine, but I do prefer the 99 PdS over the 97
It was quite good Henry, and in a very good place. I’ve not had much PdS before, and my lone Soldera was at the fortezza tasting room, but this was very enjoyable. Hoping to head out to B-more in early Dec. Hope we can grab some food, maybe drink a blle or so.
Best,
Poggio di Sotto has become one of my favorite brunellos, but the princing in this millennium has risen sharply. The 99 is a lovely wine, and we can share a bottle when you guys come east later this fall. It would be fun to do a flight that included these three makers.
I love PdS, I can still justify the price. I just wish the riservas were a little more affordable. That’s a price I find hard to swallow. The rosso is also a gorgeous wine.
