Decanted for about 45 minutes. An excellent but not outstanding Bordeaux that I bought as a future. Subtle berry flavors, beginings of bright cherry fruit emerging, some smooth leather but but very light. There is still noticeable oak but not over the top - no spllinters in the mouth. No roungh tanins. Smooth mouth feel and integrated palate. Still on the upswing. (90 pts.)

Cool to read, Jay. Do you think the wood integrated or they are just using “more” of it now? The 2005 tasted like a 2x4.

Interesting question. Here’s a note I wrote in 2010. I mentioned the oak. My recollection is that it was more obvious then than now. Whether it is integrating or just fading is hard to tell. I vaguely recall having the 2004 but I can’t speak to the oak on that.

A very nice, good but not great wine. I was a bit disappointed but only because my expectations were high based upon the laudatory notes I have seen. Decanted for about 45 minutes. The nose was a bit funky when first decanted - like moldy cloth - but it blew off in just a ferw minutes. The color was dark but pure. On the palate, cherry and red berry fruit, some tart acidity, very limited signs of age. Bought this E.P. Despite the Derenencourt consulting and the 80% new oak aging, this wine did not reek of oak and was not going to give me splinters. My wife found it to have more stuffing than she expected with stronger fruit, but I thought the fruit was wat should be expected. My only criticism is that the wine seemed to lack complexity. I thoughtthe 2000 Grand Mayne we had a week or two ago was better. Just a guess, but I think this wine needs more time, or perhaps a longer decant. I have another glass in the decanter and I will revisit it at 4 hours. (89 pts.)
