TN: 2000 Ch. Olivier 'rouge' [Pessac Leognan]

There are not many mentions of this property on WB, although Robert was enthused about the 1985 some years ago. But I loved the 2000 Ch. Olivier ‘rouge’ [Pessac Leognan] over a couple of nights. It’s medium bodied, elegant, graceful with fine Pessac secondary character on the bouquet - saddle, fall leaves, tobacco. On the tongue I find it texturally resolved, still fresh acidity, and showing fruit on the red side of the spectrum. Sediment was light, cork is normal/perfect, and this EP purchase seems to have been French tax stamped. Stephen Brooks (book pictured) doesn’t comment of the 2000 specifically but I think his overall view of the house offering a lighter delicate style is fair. I liked this more than the professionals/CT kommentariat did, but I’m enjoying the Graves traits more today than I did when I was younger.

A- on my card, and although better on the first day, it was a case where patience paid off. I don’t think I’ve bought this in any other vintage since, unfortunately

Lovely!

I always had a soft spot for the 1989.

Have not tried any recent vintages since the 2010. Need to remedy that.

Chateau Olivier and Chateau Brown are two properties where the white wine outshines the red in my opinion, but the red shouldn’t be overlooked. Very classic and great value if you can find them for sale.

Yes I bought some Ch. Brown rouge in 2000 as well, and as you note, do not recall seeing them often. Although I have not made determined efforts, nor was I willing to entertain shipping / UPS / FedEx troubles.
