TN: 2000 Arcadian Syrah Robert O. Fleming Cuvée Garys' Vineyard

An ancillary benefit of opening this wine last night is that got me thinking about my 'ol buddy Bob Fleming who haven’t hung out with in what seems like a long time.
Hi Bob- Hope you are well [cheers.gif]

Terrific Northern Rhone-ish nose that is peppery, meaty, and floral. Smells great. Palate, unfortunately, falls a little flat. The fruit is here, but it lacks an edge, some acidity to liven things up. The wine turns a bit grape-y with air. It’s a good wine. I’d happily drink it again. But it doesn’t quite reach the heights of some of Joe’s other wines. Maybe it’s a 2000 thing, I don’t drink enough CA wine to know.

Thanks for the heads up, I was going to wait and open mine at a later date but might pop it sooner. Did you drink it over several hours and do you think it might improve letting it sit overnight?

Nice note Dennis. This doesn’t have the power of either the 1999 or 2001. Sounds like it was tasty anyway. Merry Christmas to you.

Rick-Nothing about this said wait longer.
I decanted because the cork fell apart into the bottle, so the wine got plenty of air over a two-three hour period.
There didn’t appear to be the structure, acid, etc to tell me this was going to be better in a couple years.

Same to you, Don.
Hope to see you more in '15!
Cheers.
