TN: 1999 Thomas PN

After last night’s difficult 99 Soter and with all of the talk of Thomas, I thought I’d pop this bottle. I’ve never been a huge fan, so the WB following makes me scratch my head, a bit. (As someone said on another thread, Jay McDonald generally has Thomas in stock.)

Red cherry, raspberry, tobacco, & hay. It’s an anti-fruit bomb. Great acids. Very crisp tannins. Most striking thing about about any of the Thomas wines I’ve had has been the downright alien clarity to these wines. Not sure what he does to filter these wines, but there is just nothing resembling sediment. These wines are bright ruby to the eye - and this has been consistent with any Thomas that I have ever opened. Anyway, there’s a good bit going on here - while I think there is plenty left in the wine (in terms of aging) I also can’t imagine this was much different five years ago. I’d think that anyone who likes this would also like Evesham-Wood Cuvee J or Bethel Heights SE Block Reserve. Nice wine - not my favorite Oregon PN, but I think I get why it has its fans.

Great note- I haven’t had any of his 99’s but have seen a few out there.
