  • 1999 J. Confuron-Cotetidot Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (5/18/2025)
    A dark, unevolved colour. Aromas of wood spice, dark cherry, aniseed and smoked meats. It is deep and has a glossy feel in the mouth. There's good volume and intensity and ample structure to the long and expansive finish. Still very youthful.

What do you think of this producer overall, Jeremy? I have some of their Suchots, 2012, I believe, but I haven’t tried one yet?

I’ve found them pretty stern and structured wines; along with Confuron gindre the most “masculine” wines from Vosne.

Michael’s had more of this producer than I have, but at its best, I’ve been impressed.

By my experience with ‘best’ I mean 2010 RSV back in December. But that’s Vintage and Site matching at the highest synergy.

I will tell you, that the more Echezeaux I get to drink, I also think it is a trickier vineyard to get a handle on for a lot of producers than one might think. I’ve had an awful lot of ‘mid’ Echezeaux the last few years. Some beautiful examples, but a lot of mid-examples.

Wellll, I’ll certainly wish you good luck when you try one :saluting_face:. CT notes aren’t inviting an early dip either.

For the producer at large, I have to admit my suspicion is a lot of variance. Particularly in regards to expectations/potential and final result. And especially in vintages outside of the very best.

Hi Joshua,

I haven’t had enough of them to give an opinion based on a big enough sample set I’m sorry. They do have a reputation of being a bit structured and stern in their youth. This '99 was still structured but I wouldn’t call it stern. I bought a few '05’s and '09’s from them and have enjoyed what I have tasted thus far.

Not J. but 1989 and 1992 Suchots were eventually mature and very good (not great), 06 Ech. too young

Yves Confuron is also the Regisseur of Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. They are both whole cluster Domaines. Confuron-Cotetidot does not even own a destemmer. If you are not a fan of whole cluster style, these wines are not for you. The wines can be gothic in youth, but age well and become silkier with time. The terroirs are excellent. The actual plots within the respective vineyards are extremely well positioned.

It’s very helpful. I have nothing against stems–Dujac!, so I look forward to drinking these when they emerge from their “gothic” phase.
