TN: 1999 Frédéric Magnien Corton-Charlemagne

  • 1999 Frédéric Magnien Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (1/16/2010)
Decanted and then drunk over the next 3-1/2 hours. Initially it was all minerals and acidity with a bit of roasted almonds. The label says it’s unfiltered and the wine is a bit cloudy and bit darker than “light yellow.” As it took on air and warmed up a bit, the wine released more fruit flavors with white fruit, noticeably pear, the normal grape flavor in chardonnay and some lemony citrus. This was a nice wine with zero premox but the flavors were a bit subdued and on the light side. I expected more “stuffing” in an unfiltered Corton Charlie, which is why I give it the dreaded 89, but this was definitely a very good wine. After 3-1/2 hours, there was still not even the slightest hint of oxidation. (89 pts.)

Jay,
It should get a 90 just for not being premoxed!!!
