A really excellent '99 Pommard from Francois Gaunoux Fri night. Thus far, for me, Francois > Michel when it comes to Gaunouxs.
1999 Francois Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Épenots- France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (11/16/2012)
Absolutely drop dead great showing. Nose is autumnal, deep funk, decaying earth, flowers. Dark. Palate is '99 tight, but also alluring and slightly sappy cherry fruit. Wonderful minerality and cool textures. Grippy finish. Great showing. Posted from CellarTracker
Dennis, thanks for the note. I had one of these a few weeks back, we are similar in how we saw the wine, too.
1999 Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Épenots- France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (10/21/2012)
Crushed sweet cherry, an indian-like spice, soil. It’s delicate and lithe yet shows good intensity of tangy red fruit in the palate and finish. This was really delicious and shows lots of youth still, which as a 99 I would expect.
Funny, Frank. I don’t see your note in CT.
I was actually looking for a data point before I opened, but saw nothing.
We sure did see it similar.
I actually emailed Greg for more after this showing, he’s checking
I agree. Dennis, I think you added “Michel” under “Francois” on accident. It sounds like you bought it from Envoyer (like a lot of us) and those are Michel Gaunoux. Gaunoux seems polarizing on the board. Some ppl saying it’s overrated, especially considering the high BH scores. I had this bottle a year ago and liked it a lot.
