1999 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Charmes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (7/19/2009)
Absolutely shining right now. From the moment the cork was pulled you knew something special was within. Very delineated dark fruits on the nose, very clean, pure tannins that could obviously use some more time in the bottle. Full, rich palate and a 30+ second finish. This wine got better and better over the course of several hours and will be a true gem in 10 years. (94 pts.)

Nice note and great wine. It was my co WOTN along with the 89 Pichon Baron.
Great producer that you don’t hear much about. I am dying to try their Clos des Lambrays!
I bought 6 of these late last year, thinking to try one immediately and let the others age a bit. I drank them all within a few months because they were so enjoyable even when young. Very reasonably priced as well.
Thanks for the reminder. I should get more.

This was my WOTN too! Wow, what a great bottle. As Phil mentioned, this was still getting better by the time we drained the bottle. Still young and there is no doubt this will last a long time.
I preferred this just slightly over the 1989 Pichon Baron, but that could be because I’ve not had this before and the texture and flavor profile were both sumptuous. This was a really fine bottle of Charmes-Chambertin and my favorite of all the Burgs … even that Chablis which was also darn good.
