Still extremely young tasting, it’s one of the few Champagnes I was able to load up and thus follow over time due to an insanely low price a few years back.
Lots of spicy pear fruit that is starting to fill out, but maintaining the cut, precision and bracing acidity from earlier bottles I drank in 2008.
One of the few 1998 Champagnes I like - though I admit that the Chardonnay-based wines appeal to me much more than blends from the vintage.
I also snagged this at an insane price ($21.99/bottle) about 2+ years ago. It’s been very good and I agree with your note. It probably would have been worth cellaring for years to come, but I finished all of mine off just in the last month.
