TN: 1997 Pio Cesare Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

Still quite dark red in color, with barely a hint a bricking (barely). Nose is sweet bing cherries, tar, violets and roses, and spiced plum. Powerful, but elegant on the palate, with serious acidity keeping the broad fruit and tannins in check. Tannins are sweet and soft, while still making themselves heard. Medium-long finish, drink now and over the next half decade or so. (92 pts.)
