TN: 1997 Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz E & E Black Pepper

  • 1997 Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz E & E Black Pepper - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (1/8/2025)
From my father in law's cellar, where it has been stored under temperature controlled conditions since its release. This bottle was in beautiful condition. There's perfectly ripe raspberry and blood plum fruits. It has a hint of earth, milk chocolate and some black olive too. It is plush in the mouth, has some vanilla spice and plenty of savoury nuance. Nothing is forced, it is beautifully balanced and long.

Nice. I used to have 95-98 of this wine, which my Australian colleagues would gift to me when visiting the company headquarters here in California. One of my favorite Aussie wines

Thanks, Jeremy. I’ve always enjoyed that bottle very much. May even have 1 or 2 unaccounted for in storage

E & E was a good one. 1997 was excellent. 1998 was killer!

I initially misread this to suggest that your colleagues had gifted you 95 to 98 bottles of this wine and I thought that was quite odd.

I still have a few bottles of 96 left. It has always shown well and continues to please

I once was served the E&E Black Pepper Sparkling Shiraz. It was such a fascinating thing. Worked well with a cheese course. Mind bending to look at. I take this was a still rendition.

Cheers,
fred
