TN: 1996 Maison Leroy Côte de Beaune Villages

After a couple of dud bottles of this in the past month, this one was on.

Upon opening, this was dark and feral. Seriously funky, damp earth. There was also hard, spanking acidity. I Was actually thinking i might dump it, but glad I didn’t. With 30 minutes of air, it blossomed into what you’d want from aging Beaune. Underbrush, meaty, and sweat, with creamy red fruit. Really impressed with the acid that is still here. Good wine. ]

Nice! Glad the air time brought the acidity into better balance, which is so often the case with '96s now especially.

Thanks Paul.
Been really liking '96s lately.

Do you think this is nearing its end or more time will still be kind. The other two bottles you had, were they shot alltogether?. I have recently bought some and interested to know what you think about this wine.

Thanks!!

Toby,
The first two were good, drinkable, but tired and fell apart a bit with air. Could have been storage, as the bottles were clearly not in great shape.
this bottle was also not in great cosmetic shape, but the wine was vibrant and lively. Good balance of acid and mature fruit.
That said, not sure the benefit of waiting…

Ok I guess I will have to chug those 12 bottles quick smart then!. I will post how mine are. I am not sure of the condition yet as I am yet to see them.
