TN: 1996 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe CdP, 2013 Clos Saint Jean CdP Blanc…..

First rain since Spring….what better with a big pot of Coq Au Vin than a couple CdP’s!!!

  • 1996 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (9/26/2014)
Cloudy garnet, brick rim color. Intriguing nose of old leather, dusty cellar, black pepper, tomato vines, plums and blackberries. Still pretty firm in tannin and acidity…little thin, but nice aged Rhone flavors as the nose, some roasted nuts, citrus orange, dried florals…big on the old leather and black pepper…some sweet vanilla tobacco. Holding nicely…drinking well! (92 pts.)
  • 2013 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (9/26/2014)
A little fume at first…like a honeysuckle martini! As it warms and opens up a bit, it balances……very fresh and crisp bright pitted fruit, yellow apple, tangerine, lemon….pretty florals of honeysuckle, lychee, quince, citrus blossoms……very clean and crisp, lighter bodied, tons of citrus acid and crunchy minerals…but also a smooth banana waxiness to it. Alc fume still creeps in…also some nice dried honey spice, smoke. A little less fume, and i’m all over this wine! Maybe some age might mellow that out? Tasty non the less. (92 pts.)

I see not many CdP fans here??? :frowning:

For those who might secretly partake in a southern rhone wine…anyone have the 89 VT CdP of late? Might crack one tomorrow…

Still love CdP and still drinking through my father’s 98’s. Can’t drink them young anymore though. Even the whites. Great notes.

Thanks for the notes Buzz. The blanc sounds delish!
