TN: 1996 Cos d'Estournel St Estephe

This is an incredibly fresh wonderful Bordeaux.
I don’t drink tons of Bordeaux but when I do I want something with some passion.

1996 Cos d’Estournel St Estephe

A gorgeous nose. Dark fruit. Earthy. Focused and penetrating. The palate is dark fruit that has some complexity to it. A compelling balance. Wonderfully fresh in the mouth with a huge finish that lingers. There is still some tannin but boy is the wonderful stuff.
I can’t really relate how wonderful this finishes. Clean and lively.
Profound wine.

Totatly agree Don.

I’ve had this wine several time this year and it always kills, sometimes even better on day two.

Cheers,

Don, the 96 Cos for the money is a bargain, and every one of these I’ve had has been great.

yup… +1… Of the vintages I’ve had (plenty of them from 85 - 2002) the 96 is in my top 3.

Hold a few Don. Bound to get better…

Curious what the other 2 are?

90 and 95. 2000 is right up there as well and may eventually top them.

'90 Cos from this past weekend would validate that statement. Outstanding wine.

I opened a '96 last night, to accompany a 2" thick rib-eye. Your TN is dead-on. Lovely wine, much better than the '98 Pavie, which was also delicious.

Nice note Don. Strangely (for me) I have an unopened case of this. Maybe I should try one soon on this evidence!

Great to hear from you.
