TN: 1995 Château Pontet-Canet (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

  • 1995 Château Pontet-Canet - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (1/9/2021)
Last tasted over 12 years ago. Decanted for 2.5 hours and followed through the evening. Opaque dark garnet. Nose of currant, packed earth, damp cellar, and hyacinth, immediately accentuated by swirling the glass. Steady unveiling of dense currant, red plum, beef blood, leather, and graphite on the palate, fully realized at about hour 5. Moderate acidity and still-structured tannin. Long finish of dark plum, black earth, and stony elements. Though initially reticent, the wine’s scents and flavors emerged with time and came from a deep place. Quite impressive and aging at a glacial pace. (92 pts.)

Thanks for the nice note.

Jordan,

A pleasure to post on this wine, since it appears to be holding up and may even be on the early side.

Cheers,
Doug
