1995 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (9/17/2026)
Fairly meaty on first pour and showing a hint of leathery development. There are notes of capsicum, black pepper, lead pencil and tobacco too. It has echoes of briary fruits and plenty of earth. Tannins have softened considerably over the last few years and it is relatively smooth. I know this has always been considered a tannic wine but I was hoping for a little more tannin to cut through my roast lamb.
The first vintage that I bought en primeur. Still have a few left and thought that the GPL was one of the best when I had it a few years ago. Think i paid the princely sum of $30/bot.
Like this a lot. Drank my last a few months ago , agreed it was delicious and drinking really nicely now. One of my favorites from the vintage (though I’m in no rush to check into the other '95s I have.)
