2010 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault Les Narvaux- France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (2/19/2015)
Another killer 10 pycm! Much better at this stage than the 12……crystalline yellow pitted fruit, clean and fresh with cream……amazing zip in the mouth…citrus pop rocks, lemon/lime acidity, crushed flintstone……salty minerals play well with the ripe fruit, touch of honey. Classic Meursault flint strike well integrated….wonderful white flower and lime blossom florals……pure and balanced. Makes Meur-so-horny! Love it! (94 pts.)
1993 Jean-Pierre Mugneret Nuits St. Georges- France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (2/19/2015)
An ex-cellar bottle……dark ruby, rose rim color….nose of dark berries, sous bois, smoked meat, dusty old cellar spice, little menthol. Nice nose! Still quite youthful in the mouth….silky smooth, yet a firm bite of spice and tannin……might have seen quite a bit of wood here? Really tasty darker berry fruit….savory, with a good amount of earth tones…forest, dust, dried leaves, cinnamon potpourri. Not a “pretty” 93…more masculine……nice subtle complexities of smoke, licorice, tea leaves, dried cherries. Pretty amazing Village wine here imo…….the ex-cellar youth is incredible. Glad to have a couple more left since there is plenty left in the tank! LOVE ex-cellar! (93 pts.)
This is my first time with this producer…also picked up some of the 99 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ex cellar. You have any experience with any of these wines Craig, or anyone else?
This Mugneret is on the hautes-cotes…Concouer…above Vosne. Stayed there one year. V. imp to know first names in Burgundy…esp. with names that are both esteemed and common. No idea who he is…though.
^ I have a bottle of Echezeaux 2002, same one that is commented on the link that Stuart posted.
Apparently, Jean-Pierre Mugneret retired after the 2005 millésime. His vines were sold or are en fermage with domaine Nudant.
From what I could read (not much comments on his wines), they are pretty good but not great. I also have an Echezeaux 1988 that I’ll open next week-end, will report.
I have mine open now. It’s a very robust, rustic wine, say Grand Cru depth with Villages elegance. There is a pretty strong iron/rust streak in the flavor, which I like. It seems like one of those wines that will be interesting to a very old age. High acid, high tannin, high extract.
Glad to hear that about this specific PYCM, I’ve backed away from buying it a few times after reading some less than stellar reviews of Narvaux bottlings (to be clear, not regarding PYCM). I guess I’ll have to try.
