TN: 1993 Gaja Langhe Chardonnay Gaia & Rey (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC)

Certainly developed, but a very good drink. There are notes of brulee, custard apple, honey and white mushroom. It is quite full, with vinous sweetness at its heart. The finish is just drying off a tad and there's refreshing bitter citrus fruit flavour right at the end.

When I visited Gaia in 2016, she poured a 1989 Gaia e Rey which had been open 24 hours. It was stunningly good.

Wow. And just finished under traditional cork, right?

Yep, traditional cork. In very good condition and more than just a curio, a really good Chardonnay with proper development.

Oh neat. Didn’t even know they made a Chardonnay.
