TN: 1993 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

  • 1993 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (1/3/2022)
An absolutely stunning bottle of Meursault; this encapsulates so much the lost world of white Burgundy that has now mostly been supplanted by wines that use reduction and hyper-high acidity to mask less than great winemaking. This has got to be a clear case of masterful winemaking. The nose is opulent and rich, with lots and lots of mature (but not browning or cidery) apple flavours, as well as a herbal note that might even evoke juniper. Fully mature on the palate, this has an unctuous, almost oily texture that isn’t cloying thanks to its acidity. The fruit shows on the attack and midpalate, before fading into a more minerally take on chardonnay. An incredibly complex and fascinating wine. (95 pts.)

Great note, thanks.

Love thinking about great WB of that era.
