TN: 1992 Peter Lauer Saar Riesling Brut Reserve (Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer)

1992 Peter Lauer Saar Riesling Brut Reserve - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (9/29/2018)

Opened with friends last weekend. 3rd time I have had this wine with similar notes. Peter Lauer has been releasing late disgorged Sekts from his Saar winery for several vintages now. This wine was aged for 2 decades on it’s lees and disgorged June 2016. 100% Riesling. Zero dosage (the first time Lauer has done this with his Reserve Sekts). This retails for about $60 but I bought some at auction for $40 each. Light gold color. Flinty aromas. Notes of smoke, peach pit and licorice. Moderate bead which faded after a minute or so. Still youthful after 25 years and quite unique. This bottle had the lowest score of the 3 bottles I’ve tried. 92 points.

The story is they found a few crates long forgotten at the back of the cellar, many had perished crown caps as they weren’t intended to be stored for so long.

Your note certainly reminds me of the wine. I’ve seen them marked rather expensive on some restaurant lists.

Neat wines to be sure. I think I have some 1986s coming this shipping season!
