TN: 1991 Fattoria Paradiso Sangiovese di Romagna Riserva Superiore Vigna delle Lepri

  • 1991 Fattoria Paradiso Sangiovese di Romagna Riserva Superiore Vigna delle Lepri - Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Sangiovese di Romagna (5/9/2020)
Really good bottle, clearly in its twilight years. The cork, fill, and color were all in exc. condition; cork especially seemed rather new. I’ve sent an email to the current winemaker, Jacopo, to see if this might be a reconditioned bottle (doubtful), it’s in such fine shape. Aromas center on a baked blackberry pie with some cherry puree, sage, soil, and dust elements. The palate, now, is the lighter side of medium-bodied, rendering an extremely elegant, fully mature expression of Emilia Romagna Sangiovese. Tannins fully resolved, finish is medium. What really impresses with this wine is its ability to really pull out elements in a dish (in this case it was a bold-ish salad, baked lasagna, and even some chicken tikka masala of all things). A genuinely memorable wine, and one that founder, and bon vivant Mario Pezzi would make proud. 12,5% abv., drink now or in the next couple of years. Brilliant winegrowing in the Beritnoro-Cesena province. recommended+
