1990 Giacosa Fratelli Barolo Riserva Bussia - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/19/2012)
Slow-o´d the wine for about 2 hours. Transparent color with some brickening. On the nose this wine shows nice dark fruit aromas, some of the ´90 sweetness, although not at all jammy or alcoholic. Just the sweetness you scent when dark fruits are mioxed with anise or licorice. This, combined with forest floor and beautiful roses gives you just the welcoming nose you really want in a truly great Barolo. After a sip of this you understand that the nose was not playing with you. The fruit elements explodes and the acidity are really doing a great job making this a fresh and still young and vibrant bottle of wine. The tannins are still noticeable, but not at all disturbing. It makes the wine a great follower with food - however, food is not necessary for enjoying this bottle. Quite long. (94 pts.)

Just sipping on a 2007 Giacosa Falleto. So young but amazing balance!! So seductive.
Giacosa is to Piemonte as Rousseau is to Burgundy and Rayas is to Rhone.
Sanjay, wrong Giacosa. You are speaking of the wines of Bruno Giacosa, not Fratelli Giacosa. Radically different qualities…
Bill - you’re quite right, this has nothing to do with Bruno Giacosa. I’m curious, though, if you have a lot of experience with this winery, or this wine in question. The reason I’m asking is that this was a totally new experience for me. I’ve never even heard of the winery before. I was totally amazed! Could have been an exeptional bottle, fruit day, or whatever - but this wine was really singing! Kept about 1/3 till the day after, and it had not moved an inch. Hope to hear from you and others regarding your experiences, to see if I’ve just been lucky with this bottle, or if this is what one can expect from this winery.
Oops. Should have read the the post more carefully. I had not heard of Fratelli. To me Giacosa until now was only Bruno.
Any way finished the bottle over two days …great wine in the making. Loads of potential.
